Inside A Black Hole

Radiation: Video Game Stadium
This project called for a cyber game stadium at the location of the former ShanghaiWorld Expo park near the Huangpu River. The stadium should contain 1000 indoor seats and supporting entertainment service space of 5000 ㎡ . At the same time, this is also a project with structure as the theme, which requires the architecture structural concept complementary to the space concept when solving the largespan problem of the stadium.

Komorebi: Combination of Apartment and Study Center
Komorebi (木漏れ日 in Japanese) is a simple and straightforward word. There are three key components that reveal its definition: 木 (ko), 漏れ (more), and 日 (bi). The first is the kanji for “tree,” 漏れ is the stem of the verb moreru, which means to leak out or come through, and 日 is the kanji for day or sunlight. When all are combined, you get the usual rough translation of komorebi: ‘to the sunlight shining through the trees.’What if komorebi is used as a design concept? Komorebi depicts a transparent image, and this can be a possible relationship for different functional rooms in one complex. Through the interstice of the rooms, sunlight can get through the whole building from the top. The project proposal combines housing and a college activity centre, which is surrounded by many universities, with collections houses for staff and students and several enterprise and innovation bases. Through the interstice like that between leaves, users have more chances to interact with each other. In addition, the interstice would create a special light effect inside the building. The upper and lower parts of the building are divided into private and public, allowing sunlight to pass through the gaps in the upper private residential part and reach the lower public space, making the light effect of the komorebi an experience of the public space. At the same time, this penetrating relationship also bleeds through to the functional level, through the interweaving of the blocks so that people using the different functional rooms can perceive a connection with each other. The different living blocks are combined to form rooms with different functions and are grouped into eight large clusters. The lower public spaces are then arranged according to the light-transmitting positions of the upper residential blocks, making maximum use of the light that penetrates above and below to create a komorebi effect. The lowest floor is used by both urban and study groups for functions such as a library and an exhibition hall, the second and third floors are used for studios, the third floor has more outdoor terraces than the first floor and can be used by both study and residential groups, and the fourth to sixth floors are used for guest rooms.

People Theatre: Combination of Apartment and Market
The project called for a combination of apartment and market. Students need todeal with the different condition of market and residence as well as make good use of the advantages of this site. I think that the relationship between a market and an apartment can be similar with the one between a stage and its auditorium. The market can play the role of a stage where everyone can perform. Meanwhile the apartment can play the role of an
auditorium for that stage. The lively public activities of the market can be regarded as a kind of urban scenery. The feeling of opening the door of the room and looking out from the corridor is like opening a small door of a theater box and seeing theentire theatre.
Archive of My Own
The project called for an architecture which collects personal memory and anddisplay an object carrying the memory. The site can be chosen by our own. I make this architecture to collect my memory of how I feel about the size of the surroundings when I was a child and the different feeling I have when I grow up. I choose to display a small bench made by my grandfather. With the help of it, I try to change the scale of architecture to create different feelings.
Rural Memory Museum
The project called for a memory exhibition hall combined with villagers' publicactivity space and ancestral hall for Changhe Village in Hangzhou province. The village is a terroir settlement with a long history of the Lai family. It was originally formed in the South Song Dynasty and developed to its peak in the Qing Dynasty. However the village then gradually declined as a result of urbanization and the traditional space of the village along with the residential form are collapsing. Therefore, the protection and renaissance of its rich collective memory, as well as the introduction of new village public spaces, are particularly important in the current context.
